Christmas Countdown Update

12-24-2007 – less than 1 hour to go!  Time away from work has been a good fix for my lack of Christmas Spirit.  Yesterday I did some last minute shopping with GM.  We also went over to Mr. Slimpy’s house to wrap the boy’s gift’s.  Fisherman and I hid the boys’ gifts there this year – a safe distance of about 5 miles away.  GM and I have wrapped the boys gifts together for about 7 years now.  It has become a tradition.  We decided yesterday that wrapping gifts in front of Mr. Slimpy’s huge HD big screen works for us, so hiding the gifts at Mr. Slimpy’s house will surely become part of the tradition.  GM remarked how fun it has been watching the progression of gifts over the years.  It seems like yesterday that we were busily wrapping up Fischer Price toddler toys.

GM’s husband, Garage Guy, is turning 70 in January.  GM is planning a party for him.  Not huge, she decided instead to have a more intimate dinner party with just his closest friends.  As a surprise two of their dear friends are coming from Georgia.  Their gift to Garage Guy is to put together a photo album.  They have contacted friends and family and asked them to send pictures and notes for the book.  Last night I spent HOURs going through our photos to decide which to send.  It was a wonderful trip down memory lane.  It was particularly touching to go through the Christmas pictures of past years.   I recommend such reminiscing.

The Christmas Pageant was great tonight.   The boys did a superb job!   Fisherman, Mom, Dad, Brother, GM and Garage Guy all went to the church for the pageant (a small miracle in and of itself – except for Brother and GM).  We all went back to our house for dinner.  After eating many of the cookies in our goodie basket filled with homemade treats from GM, we exchanged gifts with GM and Garage Guy.  Then GM and I went to Mr. Slimpy’s house to pick up the wrapped loot.  We kept it in her car while I went in the house to complete the “Twas the night before Christmas” routine.

So, now it is a little after 11:00 PM on Christmas Eve.   The boys are in bed (finally) eagerly awaiting the arrival of the big man in the red suit.  The cookies and milk are sitting by the tree, the reindeer dust has been sprinkled on the lawn, the obligatory poem has been read.  They are ready! And so am I!  I did not get everything done that I wanted done, but in the end will surely be “enough”!  My Christmas spirit is finally a 9 out of 10!

Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!

  1. Merry Christmas! I hope you and your family had a wonderful day!
